Learning Guide

We are seeking caring, enthusiastic, and committed individuals to help facilitate small groups of children. You might be a caregiver, parent, aunt, uncle, neighbor, student taking a gap year or current university student with a flexible schedule. We have morning and afternoon shifts, and invite you to apply for either morning, afternoon or both depending on your level of interest, enthusiasm and ability to provide the necessary supports:

Role for Morning Learning Guides 

  • Work with a Learning Circle of 6-8 students from 9am-12pm Monday through Friday; 

  • Supervise and support your group of students with their school/district-provided remote learning activities and assignments;

  • Help troubleshoot issues as they arise, and keep students on-task and engaged; and

  • Ensure that your Circle is handed over to their afternoon Guide (if applicable). 

Role for Afternoon Learning Guides

  • Work with a Learning Circle of 6-8 students from 12pm-3pm Monday through Friday; 

  • Ensure every student in your circle receives and completes lunch (this may involve picking up lunches from local school sites for eligible students);

  • Accompany your Circle to their enrichment class sites Monday through Thursday and support the enrichment provider, which may include participating in the programming if needed; 

  • Lead an enrichment activity from among a bank of BoldEDU resources on Friday afternoons;

  • Conduct closing circles Monday through Friday; 

  • Ensure students are picked up by families or caregivers;

  • Help troubleshoot issues as they arise, and keep students on-task and engaged. 


Experience, skills, mindsets, dispositions:

All Guides:

  • Be at least 18 years of age or older and have some life or professional experience working with young people;

  • Enjoy young people and be comfortable engaging with them through the range of emotions they will be experiencing during a challenging time;

  • Be able and willing to take part in adult learning experiences that will help you develop specific knowledge and skills needed to be successful in this role;

  • Be excited about coaching young people to develop a sense of agency, self-confidence and self-direction as they navigate a fluid educational environment

  • Be able and willing to model comfort with ambiguity, persistence and a can-do attitude in the face of the unknown and unexpected;

  • Be able to earn the confidence of the families and students in your Learning Circle.    


Morning Guides (specifically)

  • Be comfortable with technology to the extent that you can help troubleshoot basic access or application log-in issues; 

  • Be confident interacting and communicating with school-based educators or learning support providers about technical or content-related questions;

 

Afternoon Guides (specifically)

  • Be excited about supporting afternoon enrichment providers;

  • Be excited to facilitate an enrichment activity on Friday afternoons. You will be provided ideas and inspiration through our resource bank, or can invent something with your Circle! Possibilities abound!;

  • Be comfortable leading or supporting your Circle in coordinating a closing meeting each day; and 

  • Be comfortable engaging in physical activity and coordinating young people in outdoor environments. 

Compensation: 

  • Competitive pay scale ($15-$20 per hour pending experience and qualifications);
